Last night I teamed up with Gina Emerson on a very cool engagement session.  Joann + Matt were a wicked cool couple and we had a blast!  Starting in a great field of wildflowers at Oaks Bottom Refuge and ending up at the AMF Pro 300 bowling lanes off Powell, we certainly covered the spectrum. It was great that they could care less about being around other people and, you know, making out in a bowling alley, doing jump shots, and all that fun stuff.  Thanks Joann and Matt for a GREAT shoot!

When I decided to move to Portland, one of the key reasons was that I enjoyed a particular vibe about the people here.  It was a combination of rabid self-reliance, beautiful creativity, great taste, confidence, and overall happiness.  I couldn’t really put my finger on just how to describe it. until yesterday.  Lisa + Josh (and their friends and family) embodied that spirit to the fullest, and proved to me that Portland is the place where I want to be.  They had a humble wedding at their beautiful home in SE Portland in their backyard.  The design was stunning in a minimalist/crafty feeling and the execution of the DIY spirit was perfect.  There was no stress, even for her sister that made ALL the food for the event – who had a constant smile on her face the whole time.  Lisa + Josh, thank you for allowing me the privilege of being a part of your beautiful day.

I always wanted to shoot a couple at the kitschy-yet-quaint Oaks Amusement Park in Portland, Oregon. While it is a small, neighborhood park it still seems to hold a character that is lost on the huge sprawling corporate parks. For example, their carousel (built in 1912) was closed for renovation. One call to “Big Jim” and we were escorted through locked gates, allowed to wander under Jim’s watchful gaze. It was amazing and many thanks to Jim. Please enjoy some early edits from the day!

One of the many things I love about shooting weddings is the ability to travel the World. However, in the hustle and bustle of travel you often miss out on simple, smaller scale shoots. Enter my super cool clients Jessica + Jeff. We decided together that the Oregon Coast would be a wonderful place that symbolized the beauty of their relationship. In addition it also proved as a wonderful justification for getting out an exploring our home state. Jessica had not been to Cannon Beach for many years, nor had Jeff. We all explored this area and hiked 2.5 miles to Crescent Beach which was a wonderful opportunity to chat, share stories and munch on random weeds growing along the trail (well, I did at least – don’t ask). At the end of the day we got some amazing shots, learned more about friends, and explored a little slice of this amazing state.

Tonight I had the privilege of spending the waning minutes of sunlight with Jessica + Jeff. They are such an awesome couple and, even though our shoot was very short this time, it felt like we already knew each other so well. It was short, but I had a blast (sometimes the short shoots are a lot of fun). Here are a few sneak peaks of what we ended up with chasing the last few sun rays as the sun slipped behind the Portland hills.

It’s always cool to meet fellow Vermonters here in Florida – and even cooler when you get a chance to book a shoot with them. Megan and Parker are students here in Florida. I met up with them today for a couples portrait session and we wandered around Melbourne. We had such a great time (Coldstone certainly helped!!!). Thanks guys!

Here are some quick peeks and there are a couple more over at Flickr. Be sure to check them out!

The day started with flight delays in Honolulu, then rain in Kauai. But once we began shooting, the rain stopped, the sun broke, and we had a wonderful time. Rachel and Ryan were in Kauai on their honeymoon after their wedding in Arizona. We explored Lihue and Kapaa, and all points in between (and had some good Jamba for lunch)!

Thanks guys for a wonderful time and I hope to see you again very soon!

Check my Flickr page for a few more highlights.
