I met Shannon + Levi at an old farmhouse on Sauvie Island. It was a beautiful fall day and we had an awesome time. I always love it when an engagement session starts with great light, a wonderful couple, and ends with an ice cold pint of some of Oregon’s finest microbrew. We journeyed around Sauvie Island, eventually ending at a pumkin patch and a Captured by Porches beer truck.
Did I mention the killer vintage Harley or their awesome dog that tagged along?
All’s well that ends awesome.

I flew into Detroit this past weekend, to be a part of Kara + Matt’s wedding in Ann Arbor. They were married in the presence of an amazing family and group of friends at the beautiful Misty Farm. Their wedding was so perfect! From the colors, and the weather to the fireworks and the amazing vegan dinner!
After the ceremony we moved into an amazing old Michigan barn for a boot-stompin’ good time. We fired up the Photo Studio Experience and it was a huge hit (pics to come soon).
Thanks so much guys for letting me be a part of your amazing wedding!
As always, check out the rest of the series over on Facebook.

The emails were being exchanged like with so many other engagement sessions…what date? What time? but most importantly, what location? Erica mentioned they wanted more “wilderness” than city. One place resounded in my mind – Macleay Park. This amazing place is a single trail that links Cornell Rd with NW Portland. It follows Balch Creek which is an amazing little stream that reflects the beauty of the valley. Erica + Joel loved the place and I really feel like it fit them perfectly!

It’s Springtime in Portland…the sun creeps through dark, ominous clouds, the birds are chirping, and my clients once again frolic and splash around in swamps and fountains. Today was one of those days! Janessa and I met at a bridal show, where she won my free engagement session. We scheduled the shoot for today and had such a blast with her and Nate. We roamed around the Pearl District of Portland and found some great hidden spots to shoot. Check out some shots below and a few more over on Facebook.

Ahhhh the Portland Springtime…some of the most unpredictable weather you can imagine. So, after four reschedules due to weather, I was finally able to work with Coral + Ryan in St. John’s today. It was such a GREAT shoot and we had a blast exploring Cathedral park. What an amazing place! Check out more over on Facebook.

I have always wanted to shoot an engagement session in the rain. Being Portland, I figured that would be no problem. So I scheduled Joanne + Tim’s engagement session in a sure month – March – and watched the forecast. Sure enough, rain was an 80% likelihood. but, of course the city woke to blue skies and sun! So we took advantage of the weather and shot in the sun instead, finding some amazing hidden alleyways and buildings around Alberta.
Here are a few, but head over to Facebook for the rest!

Yesterday I spent the day with Kara and Matt, venturing around (and up) Mount Hood. I know the outdoors is a core component of their lives, so it was vital to tightly integrate nature with the shoot. We started in Zigzag and ended up at Timberline Lodge after chaining up the car for the journey. The day ended with margaritas and burritos at a great local Mexican food joint. Check out some early previews from the shoot:

“Mun ouy laing leah, mun ouy prort preah.”
The beauty of being a wedding photographer is the fact that no two weddings are alike. I had this epiphany yesterday while crouched in Sallies’ parents living room, surrounded by a hundred of their family members, shooting through a cloud of incense. And, while I could not understand the language, the look on everyone’s face – that which transcends the barrier – conveyed the beauty of the moment. It was a truly remarkable wedding where I was able to learn a lot, be creative, and smile with strangers.

It was an awesome morning drive down the Columbia Gorge and over the Bridge of the Gods. Turning left up Wind Mountain, I was soon at the venue Kristi + Cliff had raved about with me – Wind Mountain Ranch. The weather was perfect and the vibe was awesome. Everyone was having a blast. From the girls chilling in the ranch to the guys tossing the football, I could tell this was going to be an awesome wedding. Kristi +Cliff did not disappoint!

Tonight I had the chance to cruise along Oregon Highway 26 with Sallie + Sophorn, wedding clients of mine. I wanted to shoot along this popular corridor, as it offers a great mix of rural, agricultural, and forested areas. We had a great time exploring side roads and creeks of Oregon. Plus, any opportunity for me to shop around for vintage magazines is a plus!
