I always wanted to shoot a couple at the kitschy-yet-quaint Oaks Amusement Park in Portland, Oregon. While it is a small, neighborhood park it still seems to hold a character that is lost on the huge sprawling corporate parks. For example, their carousel (built in 1912) was closed for renovation. One call to “Big Jim” and we were escorted through locked gates, allowed to wander under Jim’s watchful gaze. It was amazing and many thanks to Jim. Please enjoy some early edits from the day!

I was humbled and honored this morning when the official list of the NW7 was announced. Misty Damico of So this is Bliss did an amazing job of assembling artists that align with her business principles and her care for her clients.
Check out the official list and the other photographers here.

One of the many things I love about shooting weddings is the ability to travel the World. However, in the hustle and bustle of travel you often miss out on simple, smaller scale shoots. Enter my super cool clients Jessica + Jeff. We decided together that the Oregon Coast would be a wonderful place that symbolized the beauty of their relationship. In addition it also proved as a wonderful justification for getting out an exploring our home state. Jessica had not been to Cannon Beach for many years, nor had Jeff. We all explored this area and hiked 2.5 miles to Crescent Beach which was a wonderful opportunity to chat, share stories and munch on random weeds growing along the trail (well, I did at least – don’t ask). At the end of the day we got some amazing shots, learned more about friends, and explored a little slice of this amazing state.

What is better than a great couple, a destination wedding to a sunny locale, and a beautiful venue? Well, not much actually. Such was the case last weekend when I traveled to Titusville, Florida to shoot Crystal + Brian’s beautiful wedding at La Cita Country Club. I have known Crystal + Brian for some time now, especially after our last session – their engagements – at Cocoa Beach. Bottom line – this was a wonderful wedding and I am so thankful they gave me the opportunity to be a part of it. Their warm and loving friends and families made my job so much easier and a pleasure. Thanks Crystal + Brian!

I think it can be safely said that shows wear you down. As a professional, you are on your feet for many hours on end, constantly interviewing for your “job” and managing all aspects of your business from a far, strange place. This was not the case when we came home from the 2010 Vintage Bridal show in Portland this weekend.
We returned home with a new group of vendor friends that truly made the weekend a blast. We met some wonderful brides-to-be, and even chatted with members of the community that just stopped by to see what all the fuss was about. Melanie (my wife and admin superstar) even left with an awesome vintage makeover! The show was hosted by Ava Hansen and Alexsandra at the Queen Anne Victorian Mansion in North Portland.
All told, we left this show after spending some time with wonderful people. Special thanks to Wendi from Sweettreats for the cupcake samples that kept us all going, Coiffure by Kristen Behlings, and Brenna Scarrott for Melanie’s amazing makeover, the cats from DJs on Demand for ordering pizza and spinning some awesome big bands, Eye Design Studio for all the discussions on marketing and social networking, and Steve and Jess from Fifty Chairs for being our wonderful neighbors!
This was a brilliant event – thanks to everyone! I will also be announcing the winner of my free engagement session soon!
